NEEDLEWORK & FABRIC FRAMING IN LONG STRATTON

Framing needlework and fabric artwork is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Pieces such as cross stitch, embroidery, and freehand needlework are often a true labour of love. They can take weeks, sometimes years, to complete. They deserve to be stretched and framed properly so they can be admired for a lifetime.

At Edge Frame & Design, I work closely with you to make sure your fabric artwork is presented beautifully and preserved carefully. My showroom and workshop are based in Morningthorpe, a quiet village just outside Long Stratton, and I offer both workshop appointments and a free mobile framing service across Norwich, Diss, and surrounding South Norfolk villages.

A Thoughtful Approach to Framing Needlework

Framing fabric artwork, such as needlework and cross-stitch, really does finish off these beautiful pieces. When stretched and framed correctly, they look incredible, and more importantly, they remain protected and supported.

Some artworks on fabric are created over many evenings, stitched carefully by hand, sometimes passed down through generations. When you bring your piece to me, I understand that it is not just fabric and thread. It is time, patience, creativity, and memory.

Using my service to frame your fabric artwork means you will enjoy it for years to come, without worrying about sagging, distortion, or damage.

Types of Needlework & Fabric Artwork We Frame

There are many different kinds of fabric artwork which can be framed. I am always on hand to advise and help you choose from a wide selection of styles and colours to suit both the artwork and your home.

Cross Stitch Framing

Cross stitch is one of the most popular textile pieces I frame across Long Stratton, Norwich, and Diss. Whether it is a traditional sampler or a modern design, careful stretching is essential to ensure the stitches sit straight and evenly.

For example:

Modern Cross Stitch
A modern take on a traditional sampler can look beautiful with a simple off-white mount and a contemporary grey frame. This combination keeps the piece fresh and clean while allowing the stitching to shine.

Freehand Needlework

Freehand embroidery often contains intricate detail and texture. It benefits from thoughtful mounting and framing that enhances the craftsmanship.

One beautifully detailed needlework piece I framed was double-mounted with a red accent and finished with a simple gold frame. The red mount lifted the thread colours subtly, while the gold frame gave it warmth without overpowering it.

Free Machining & Quilted Artwork

Not all textile pieces need stretching in the same way.

For example, a quilted free machining artwork was double-mounted into a traditional gold frame without being stretched tightly. This allowed the natural texture of the fabric to remain visible while keeping the piece secure and supported.

Every piece is different, and that is why I never use a one-size-fits-all approach.

How Needlework Is Carefully Stretched & Mounted

Proper textile framing is about patience and precision.

I carefully stretch fabric by hand to ensure:

• The weave remains straight
• The stitching is evenly tensioned
• No distortion occurs
• The fabric is properly supported
• The piece can be preserved long-term

Where needed, I use conservation-grade materials to help protect your artwork from deterioration.

If your needlework is particularly delicate or valuable, you may also want to explore our archival framing options.
