Archival & Specialist Framing in Long Stratton
Some pieces need more than just a frame, they need something special. Whether it’s a treasured letter, an oddly shaped item, or a bold creative vision, we love finding unique ways to frame things that don’t fit the mould.
At Edge Frame & Design, we offer bespoke archival and specialist picture framing from our base in Long Stratton, covering areas across Norwich, Diss, and surrounding parts of Norfolk. From UV-protective glass to custom-coloured frames, everything is made with care, precision, and a personal touch.

Framing for Unusual or Creative Projects
Some framing jobs are simple, like painting a frame in your favourite colour. Others are a bit more ambitious, like designing a custom frame to fit around something unexpected. Whatever your idea, we’ll take the time to listen, explore the possibilities, and create something that works beautifully.
No two projects are the same, and that’s exactly why we love them.

Hinged Display Cabinet
One client needed a hinged cabinet to display a layered collection of personal items. We designed the structure from scratch, combining carpentry, secure fixing points, UV-protective glazing and a clean finish that allowed the contents to shine without distraction. These kinds of jobs take time, but the result is something truly unique.

Aquarium Frame
Yes, we’ve framed around an aquarium. This oversized frame was designed, built, and installed to surround a large tank, creating a seamless look that tied into the rest of the room. Projects like this often require precision measurement, careful fixing, and a creative mindset, and we’re always up for the challenge.

Your Frame, Your Colour
Sometimes all you want is a frame in the perfect colour to match your paintwork, highlight a feature in the artwork, or tie in with your furniture. We can colour match from popular brands like Farrow & Ball, or use a reference you provide. Whether it’s a bold contrast or a subtle tone, we’ll paint it for you by hand.
Have an idea that’s a bit outside the box? We’d love to hear it.
Archival Framing – For Protection and Longevity
If your artwork or document needs a little extra protection, we offer archival-quality framing options designed to preserve it for the long term.
These options are ideal for:
-
Watercolours and drawings
-
Signed prints and certificates
-
Letters, photographs, or family keepsakes
-
Delicate papers or vintage materials
We use conservation-grade materials and techniques where needed, always tailored to your piece and how it will be displayed.
UV Protective Glass
We offer several types of UV protective glazing, depending on what your piece needs:
-
Standard UV glass offers up to 99% UV protection. It reflects light similarly to normal glass, as the UV coating is applied to the surface, but it provides excellent protection against fading caused by sunlight.
-
Conservation clear museum glass provides high UV protection with improved clarity and significantly reduced reflection, making it ideal for valuable or sentimental pieces where visibility and presentation matter just as much as preservation.
A recent example includes a letter from Buckingham Palace, glazed using museum glass to protect it from light damage while keeping the colours vibrant.
We’ll explain what’s suitable for your piece during your consultation.

Archival Mounting Methods
We also use conservation mounting techniques where needed, particularly for valuable or fragile works on paper.

Archival Float Mounting
Some pieces need to breathe a little. If your artwork has deckled edges, uneven borders, or an unusual shape, float mounting allows us to present it in a way that celebrates its form.
We use archival-quality mount boards and acid-free, fully removable fixings to float the piece on top of the mount. This creates space around the work, giving it presence, while also allowing for safe removal or adjustment in the future.
It’s a clean, modern look that’s especially popular with handmade prints, original drawings, and textured paper artworks.
Window Mounting
For traditional presentation, we use bevel-cut window mounts, sized precisely to fit your piece. The artwork is attached using acid-free, lignin-free tapes, buffered to a pH of 8.5 to neutralise potential acidity over time.
Behind the artwork, we use archival-quality backing boards, and we finish the frame using protective sealing tapes, ensuring every layer of the piece is protected.
These techniques are particularly recommended for valuable or irreplaceable artworks, as they reduce the risk of yellowing, warping, or chemical damage in the years ahead.

A Little Extra
Authentic Period Frames
We also offer authentic period-style frames, handmade in the UK by our trusted supplier.
These traditional mouldings come in a wide range of designs and colours. They work beautifully for vintage pieces, but they can also add a dramatic, contrasting look to modern art.
They’re perfect if you’re looking to make a statement or recreate a specific historical style.
